In The Real Estate Business You Get A Lot of No's

One advantage to working in the real estate business is that you get used to people telling you:

  • No

  • I can’t do that

  • That can’t be done

  • That’s not our policy

  • There is a law against that

  • That’s not the way we do it here
I would hear these comments so much after a while they would just roll off my back, I didn’t even really consider what they are saying. I just kind of automatically reply without even thinking about it:

  • Why?

  • Can we do it this time?

  • Please get your supervisor

  • Well now this is the way we are going to do it

  • Is there someone else working here that can help me now

  • Do you really want me to call your boss and tell him what you are doing?
When I would walk into a business I would visualize myself in a suit of armor with a shield and a giant sword.  I know I have better training than any one in there, I just wait for them to step up and challenge me and I would cut them down and move on.

Sometimes it was a bit of a let down when no one would stand up to challenge me, here I am all ready for a nice little fight and they just agree right off.

So you don’t miss understand I am talking about things like, walking into my bank and asking to deposit a check into my account, and being told the bank can’t do that.

Or asking to make a withdraw and being told my money is not here at this time, it will be back in a couple days.

I am thinking about all the crazy things banks have told me because I just called a bank and the first two things the person said to me were:

  • I don’t think we can do that

  • That’s not our policy to do that for customers
I don’t want to say the name of the bank because I do a lot of business with them and I really like them – most of the time.

If you are going to stop the first time someone tells you no, then don’t get involved in the real estate business, because just about everyone will be constantly telling you no.
