I Am Not A Real Estate Sales Person

I don’t consider myself a sales person at all, I really don’t like trying to sell something to anyone.

That is one great thing about the real estate market, if you have a house to sell all you really have to do is show it to people and explain what you know about it.

If I found anything that was wrong with a house I would always tell people about the problem first, I really didn’t want to sell anyone a house that was not prepared to buy it.

In fact several times I refused to sell people houses because I just didn’t think it was right for them.  

I remember one lady who wanted to buy a house that needed a lot of work.

She had 3 kids and was going to spend every dime she had to buy the house.  I asked her how she was going to fix it.  She didn’t know but guessed she could get it done, even though she had never done any work like this before.

I have fixed up a lot of houses and this house needed a lot of work, and let me tell you that work does not get done on its own.  It takes a lot of money, blood, sweat and tears.

When I told her I would not sell her the house she got upset with me, but it was the right thing to do, I just couldn’t imagine her spending all her money to buy the house and then trying to live in the house the way it was.  It was a bad situation for her and a worse situation for her kids – she just didn’t know it.

A contractor who had fixed up several houses that were in similar condition came by a few days later and made me an offer on the house and I sold it to him.  It was the right thing to do.

When you sell a house in California you should fill out a disclosure form, anything you know about the property should be included in this form, it only makes sense to tell people if there is something wrong because if you don’t you run the risk of getting caught later.
